Five Questions: Kathy Tolcser

Kathy Tolcser is the owner and sole operator of Clinical Dimensions, a skin care and nail spa located in downtown Troy. Tolcser has owned the business for four years after getting certified as an aesthetic and nail technician from the Aesthetic Science Institute in Latham. Tolcser also has a BA in biology and medical technology from Russell Sage College.
Q: What procedures and products do you offer?

A: I do custom facials because everyone has different skin conditions and skin types. I believe that every procedure should be customized. I also offer waxing, pedicures and manicures. I carry SkinCeuticals and SkinRenu, both professional strength products which can only be prescribed by an aesthetician. It all depends on your skin type.

Q: What is your favorite procedure to do?

A: Well, I don’t really have a favorite, but I do enjoy pedicures and facials. I don’t really care about ugly feet. I can turn any foot around and make it pretty and I love seeing my customers satisfied. With facials people don’t see that their mood and the emotions are tied to how they see their own faces. I love to make people feel pretty and I do it for men and women alike.

Q: Why do you think your business is unique?

A: Well, it is one room, and I only do one-on-one treatments. I am the only person that works here, and it’s a very private location. It is an alternative to a large spa. I mean, I can’t do wedding parties because I’m only one person, but I think personal experiences are just as important. I think I offer a unique location in downtown Troy. Most of my clients live and work in Troy and this provides them with a local option.

Q:When did you realize that this was what you wanted to do?

A: I had never had a facial until I attended the school in Latham. I heard about it through an advertisement, and I researched what an aesthetician actually is. I was impressed with how professional the school was, it wasn’t what I expected it to be. That’s when I decided that this is what I wanted to do.

Q: If you could travel somewhere right now, where would you go?

A: I would love to go to Africa. I’ve never been on the continent and I’ve heard so much about the people and the wildlife. I just really love to see different things.
